Snuggles
a Tiny Kingdom story about the first spring sun
The first spring sunshine had found its way into the Tiny Kingdom.
It was still early in the year, and there was enough chill in the air for Prince Donder to wear his little royal pullover. He lay nestled among soft blankets beside the Queen, his eyes closed and his face turned towards the sun.
He gave a deep sigh and settled a little further into the warmth.
Prince Dingus was there too, of course. He wandered nearby for a while, sniffing here and there and keeping an eye on whatever was happening in the garden, until he came back to the Queen and his brother.
There was a sound somewhere beyond the hedge, and one of his ears lifted.
For a moment, Dingus listened. But even he seemed to sense the sacredness of the moment, merely twitching an ear before settling down next to his brother.
Donder barely stirred. The sun warmed his little face, Dingus grew still beside him, and the Queen sat with her two boys close to her.
None of them needed to go anywhere. For in this brief, stolen piece of spring, the Queen and her boys needed nothing more than the sun, the quiet, and each other.
