The Diamond Queen
a Tiny Kingdom story about the crack that revealed the light within…
For many years, the Queen carried a secret she did not know she carried. Deep within her lived a diamond.
When she was a very little Queen, the diamond had shone freely and brightly. It had seen the world with clear eyes, spoken truths in a small voice, and reached towards life with a heart full of wonder.
As the years passed, storms came to the Kingdom. Some were heavy, some almost impossible to carry. Some souls were warmed by the diamond’s light. Others looked into its brilliance and struggled with what they saw reflected there.
Slowly, the Queen learned to wrap the diamond in layers of soft, dark cloths. She covered it with explanations, with patience, and with countless attempts to be understood. To be loved. To be seen. Layer by layer, dust settled over the diamond until she almost forgot it was there.
Then the Kingdom changed. A beloved little white prince had been called to continue his adventures in the other realm, among the stars.
The Queen carried his love with her every day, just as she carried the love of all the royal souls who had walked beside her throughout her life. Yet this farewell left a quiet space in the Kingdom that had never existed before. The stars above the palace shone differently after that.
Then came the day the Queen fell. The fall brought pain, darkness, and a long season of mist, and the Queen walked through days she would later remember only as shadows and fragments.
During that quiet, sad, unseen season, something began to shift. A crack appeared. At first, the Queen believed the crack was a wound and feared something precious had been broken. But the crack continued to open, and one day she noticed a beam of bright light.
Curious, she looked closer. Beneath the old cloths and beneath the years of dust, she recognised the diamond that had always lived within her.
The Queen stood very still. She saw how often she had hidden her own brightness so others would feel comfortable, and how many battles she had fought trying to make others, and even herself, understand what the diamond had been showing them.
The diamond had never judged those who looked into it. It had only reflected what stood before it.
A soft wind moved through the palace gardens, carrying a whisper from the other realm where the beloved little white prince continued his adventures among the stars. The Queen closed her eyes, and in the gentle breeze she recognised his familiar voice.
“My dearest,” he whispered, “there you are again. Finally, you see it too.”
A gentle smile appeared on the Queen’s face. There was no anger in her heart, no need to convince anyone. There was only the knowledge of what was true.
And so the Queen turned towards the sunlight, carrying her diamond openly for the very first time.
